Broadband Universal Service Obligation: consultation on design

The Digital Economy Act 2017 which received Royal Assent in April, enabled the creation of a new broadband Universal Service Obligation (USO), giving every household and business the right to request a broadband connection at a minimum speed of at least 10Mbps, up to a reasonable cost threshold - no matter where they live or work. Following this, the Government is consulting on the specific design of the USO which would be set in secondary legislation.

Protection of Official Data

The Protection of Official Data project was referred to the Law Commission by the Cabinet Office in late 2015. We commenced work in February 2016 and they will publish their final report in Summer 2017.

The General Data Protection Regulation

The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will apply in the UK from 25 May 2018. The UK remains a member of the European Union until we leave and the full rights and obligations of membership will apply until then, which includes an obligation to implement the GDPR.
