BS 6079 Guide to Project Management

In the field of project management standards, BS 6079, the British standards document on the ‘Principles and guidance for the management’ (which has been around for many years) tends to be dwarfed by the Axelos PRINCE2 collection of standards and bodies of knowledge like those of APM and PMI. BSI, the British standards body tends in the case of project management to work through the international body ISO. BS 6079 is the exception and aspires to present a more detailed practical application of principles outlined in the ISO standards. A new version of the standard had just been released for public comment, and we urge you to examine it and give us your comments on it.

Developing the UK’s cyber security profession

In 2016, the government’s National Cyber Security Strategy made a commitment to developing a cyber security professional body in the UK. Now, in this consultation, the government has set out potential structures and responsibilities this body would take on, in addition to consulting on the timeframes and budgets necessary to achieve this. Since the release of the strategy in 2016, BCS has been working with relevant organisations to put together a collaborative Alliance capable of taking on this portfolio of work, by having the expertise and experience to command authority in the cyber security space.

Broadband Universal Service Obligation: consultation on design

The Digital Economy Act 2017 which received Royal Assent in April, enabled the creation of a new broadband Universal Service Obligation (USO), giving every household and business the right to request a broadband connection at a minimum speed of at least 10Mbps, up to a reasonable cost threshold - no matter where they live or work. Following this, the Government is consulting on the specific design of the USO which would be set in secondary legislation.
